Hail Caesar: Harrah's Entertainment To Undergo Name Change
Business, 2008-04-11, by Ozone
Harrah's Entertainment, owners and operators of the World Series of Poker, announced that they will be changing their name to Caesars Entertainment Corp. Harrah's and Caesars used to be rivals in the casino industry. In 2005, Harrah's spent $9 billion to acquire Caesars Entertainment whose biggest holding was the legendary Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The decision to change their name to that of its acquisition was to, "provide our company with greater prestige," said CEO Gary Loveman.
The company will continue to employ the Harrah's name along with Caesars and Horseshoe as its three primary casino brands. They operate more than 50 casinos in the world, eight of which are in Las Vegas. Poker players are well aware of one of their properties, Rio, which plays host to the WSOP.
